4th International Flute Competition Krakow 2008

65 candidates from 18 countries enrolled for preliminary auditions with obligatory programme. Those countries included: Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Korea, Latvia, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Venezuela, Hungary, Italy.

Accompanying events
Flute Forum - on 9 April 2008 a “World Forum of the Flute Playing Art: Confronting Cultures and Generations” was held at the Academy of Music, attended by all the members of the Jury and by over 60 guests: students and pedagogues, who debated over the following topics:
• Art of flute in Scandinavia –the history and the present times
• Cultural transformation of the flute playing art from the historic perspective
• Aesthetic of sound in various kinds of flute music; classic – jazz
• Contemporary virtuoso flute playing – tradition continued
• The heritage of the French flute playing school
• Sound shaping as a component of the musician’s artistic individuality
• Flute in the symphonic orchestra and in the chamber music – changes in the playing trends
  Impact of the Polish flute literature on the global flute playing
• Diversity and cohesion of the world flute playing centres
• Role of competitions in the process of improvement of the playing techniques and means of artistic     expression .

The opening of the 4th International Flute Competition Krakow 2008 was accompanied by a superb recital of János Bálint, representing the Japanese company Pearl – who, accompanied by the pianist Enikö Bors from Germany – played compositions of Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Gioacchino Rossini, Camille Saint-Saëns and Ferenc Liszt, attracting crowds of enthusiastic listeners.

The shows and exhibition of flutes, organised by Pearl Musical Instrument Corporation, an international flute corporation, in co-operation with Silesia Music Center, and the instrument conservation stand of Jarmuła Music, Tarnow, enjoyed a huge interest of the public.
